What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol - Matt Palmer

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standard for connecting data between AI models and tools. One example use case is integrating different models or agents in a shared workflow.

A few things to note about MCP clients and servers:

  • They're especially popular in projects using Anthropic's Claude.

  • They don't currently integrate directly with ChatGPT or Gemini, though both platforms are developing APIs or similar connectors.

  • Security is a known concern—MCP implementations often lack the robust safeguards found in more mature AI agent frameworks.
