Ben Heath does a great job of covering how to optimize Google Ads campaigns for lower cost. These are long-standing strategies that I used even 10 years ago, resulting in a 2-4X ROI increase of most campaigns I adopt.

I’ll add to Ben’s tips that:

  • Knowing the customer really well and how they word their needs at different levels of intent is important.

  • Customer priorities often shift, so keep a pulse on what the customer wants today, not 6-12 months ago. An example is developer audience trends that have moved from a focus on time and cost efficiency, to low code, to security obsession, to a desire for automation.

  • Adding retargeting/remarketing ads has always increased return on my campaigns.

  • In most cases you can add more expensive keywords after you’ve proven a revenue increase with lower budgets.
